Sarah Melendrez has been immersed in the culinary world since birth. Her great-grandfather & his father founded Lippman's Bakery in 1907, which was the first kosher bakery in Seattle. Although the bakery was closed in 1963, long before Sarah was born, its legacy impacted her future career. As a Seattle native, Sarah grew up appreciating the fresh produce and seafood available at Pike’s Place Market, and as a Southern California transplant, the fresh bounty available year-round in this climate. This, in addition to her career as a nutritionist, and her growing family alongside husband Aaron Melendrez, has been the catalyst for the launch of the farm to table, chef-driven deli and specialty market, Uptown Provisions. Sarah received a degree in Communications and advanced degree in Family Consumer Science, focusing on Nutrition, forging a career path that has allowed her to explore every angle of her passion for food, health, and wellness. She worked on the marketing team for several CPG brands within the natural products industry and spent five years as a dietitian sharing her passion for whole food cooking and healthy eating. For the last decade, she has worked as an in-demand food and nutrition specialist. Her background coupled with her excitement for connecting products with people is one of her joys, and it’s an asset she will bring with her to Uptown Provisions. From her first date with Aaron at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market to years getting lost exploring unique products in small markets both domestic and abroad, Sarah has found a true partner to explore the culinary world with. With their first-born child due soon, Uptown Provisions will be truly the mom & pop shop of their dreams.
